Built 1953 as OAK for Joseph Fisher & Sons Ltd, Newry, by Scott & Sons, Bowling. grt 709, dwt 965, spd 10 knts, General Cargo. 1964 Sold J & A Gardner & Co Ltd, Glasgow renamed SAINT BRIDGET. 1970 Trans to Strathpark Spg Co Ltd. 14-12-1972 Scuttled, deliberately exploded 40 miles south of the Lizard, after her cargo of Nitroglycerine was found to be leaking while transshipping to AUTOLYCUS in Carrick Roads on 6-12-1972.

The facts concerning what happened to the Saint Bridget are correct but the dates are wrong, maybe just a typo but it was not 6/12/1972. It was 6/2/1972 I was on the Autolycus when this incident took place.

#1 Thanks Mike if you have HMS RECLAIM in their number it may be worth mentioning that she may have been the last HM Warship to carry sail as well as power. Reclaim was still under commission in 1978 -9,Any naval personnel on site may be able to add to this. Cheers JS.
