    Default Furness, withy

Can anyone please suggest where I might find a list of Furness, Withy Group ships lost in WWII?

    Regards

    Default furness withy

type in THE SHIPS LIST, go to furness withy, gives the history of all Furness line ships, they owned many companies, so may have to trace each company they owned to get a complete list of ships lost, hope this helps.

    Default Furness withy

Thanks very much, Tony. I've tried THE SHIPS LIST, but find it very confusing as regards Furness, Withy.

    Regards

    Default Furness Withy W2 losses

    Hi Ian'

I have just seen your thread asking for info. on F.W. losses and wondered if this is still an active request. I have Alan J. Tennent's excellant book "Merchant Ship Losses to Axis Submarines" and would be happy to give details therein. It includes vessels sunk by torpedo, sub. laid mines and by gunfire. Does not include though ships sunk by surface raider. Had you a particular ship in mind.

I thought I had sailed on mainly Furness Withy Ships, Pacific Importer, Pacific Liberty Pacific Reliance etc, only to finf when I read the Prince line story that most of them were leased or owned by Prince line.
The Prince line story is worth reading.

Ah the good old Pacific Reliance.
Did two trips on her to Vancouver.
Six hatches of Whiskey from Glasgow.
    A very happy ship.

    Dear Pete

It appears that I didn't respond to your kind offer. I can't understand why and can only say that I'm sorry.

I wanted information on ALL Furness, Withy losses for my book SHIPPING COMPANY LOSSES OF THE SECOND WAR. It was published by the History Press on 1st July, 2013 and in it I acknowledge the help given by Mr A.D. Frost.

    Best wishes

    Ian
