hi,as tony has said,if he decices to build a model of a houlders ship,
it would be nice to have one of the royston or hardwicke grange.

Not wishing to take anything away from the Crew and passengers on the Royston Grange Keith, you have to remember that we have all been to sea in our youth and as such any reminder of ships that we have sailed on are of supreme importance in our twilight years. I, like Mike, would love to have a model of the Hardwicke Grange as she was my first ships at the tender age of 16. It was aboard her I changed from a boy to a man and had so many incredible experiences and made so many friends, many of whom have sadly passed on. She is part of my family history. However since it is unlikely to happen it is somewhat academic. Now maybe you understand why I made the previous post.
Hi Trader, I sailed as Deck boy/Ordinary seaman on the "Neleus" from Feb 1956 to December 1956 covering two voyages right up to the Suez war. We turned around in the Red Sea and went around the Cape of Good Hope. Stretched the trip for an extra month. Butch Mason was bosun as you say. Do you recall that the bosuns mouth had an accident with AB Frank Branscombes fist. Other names on that trip were, AB's Andy Lanagan, Eddie Kelly, Jimmy Blower, Jock Muir, Peter Marshall, Peter Ward, and 1st mate Spencer Hogbin.Quote:

I saw your post about riding the stays last week but couldn't reply as my computer was out of action and needed a new hard drive, I have got it back now. I was able to view posts with a little 7" tablet that I have but trying to reply was a pain in the a-se.
I got on OK with Jimmy Mason, can't remember him being any trouble, mind you it is 57 years ago and my memory ain't what it used to be:)

Hi again Alec, Jimmy Mason was ok most of the time. But what happened was, Frank Branscombe a big burly Spanish looking guy from Wirral had had a few drinks in Brisbane and was shadow boxing on a hatch on the after deck one evening, and asked Jimmy to spar with him, many of us watching. Being an ex boxer Jimmy obliged. Frank threw one big right-hander and Jimmy lost all of his front teeth top and bottom. Took a lot of trips to the dentist around ozzy to ease his agony. After that Jimmy wasn't nice to anyone. I don't know of the other guys you mentioned except for Danny Proctor. Cheers
