    I was on her when Churchill died, what was strange she was built with a AA gun emplacement over the steering gear house, however the gun was never installed as it was commissioned in 1946, being a steam turbine the engine room noise was awful, no ear protectors issued in those days or needed to do your job.

    What Year was she Built !?

    Not related but just to say as i see you are in Calgary, My Daughter and Hubby are Flying thee on the 10th June, for Holiday then off o Vancouver to Join Ship for Inside passage Cruise! Cheers They are from Birmingham UK.

    Living in Calgary we have the mountains & foothills, so haven't needed a cruise up the inside passage, but understand its awesome.

    SS Devon was built in '46
