    Default MV Otaio

Further to my previous posting re joining my first ship ,the Mataura in RAD july 1971, my second and final voyage was on the Otaio.Joining her in Avonmoth in august 1972, finally getting around to london in the midst of a dockers strike to load for NZ. when the seagoing crew joined the ship.Thats when the trouble started.Chief elec and chief eng were two of the most horrible lazy s.o.b.s that ever put to sea, their names were Tommy Collin and Laurie Lendry and apart from those 2 the crew were superb including around 70 deck cadets, who tragically we lost one when he fell from a samson post in a dead calm sea one morning on the return journey back to the uk.we had to put his body in the deep freeze until we got back to Hull in january.I left the company after that so i never found what the verdict was, he was 17.If anybody remembers the incident or fancies a chat about anything, most welcome!

Lads, I would appreciate if anyone of the many i have sent M Navy memorabilia to from Canada to New Zealand, To confirm if i have never charged them one penny. This is imortant to me lads because Bertie Basset.................Above insists on sending me a cheque for a dvd i promised him for free. I a not glory seeking here lads you all know who you are. And i requested the same from him a small donation to the blind society who done there bit for my dying Mother. p.s. oh by the way Bertie Boy forget it the offer is off you are getting nothing from me and i would appreciate you deleting my email adress as i have deleted yours i exist on disability payments this is not a money making excersice if i can bring these genuine ex seaman friends of mine a step back in time to what was a part of there life they enjoyed then i will carry on doing so. Also the proud owner of the M.Navy war veterans Badge for supplying British Armed forces during the Suez Crises, And later on in Belize. Terry.

    some coincidence.
My first voyage to sea was on Otaio (voyage 2)
    in 1958.
Unfortunately on the return voyage to UK one of our fellow deck cadets fell from the bridge wing whilst trying to access the bridge front to clean the windows.
    He was buried at sea
