    Hi Brian,
I am not ex Navy but I am looking for an old friend of mine who served as an Engineer Cadet on the M.V. Otaio after he left school in Maghull, Liverpool in 1968. I have tried unsuccessfully to find him for a number of years, the last letter I had from him was in 1968 from Panama.
Can you help me at all?
    Cheers
    Ian

    Hi.

Can you remember the name of the cadet who was killed - I think it may have been the cadet that I became a
friend with & we corresponded for some time. I often wondered why his letters stopped coming & I was told a long time later of his accident. He was a lovely young man & I have never forgotten him after all these years.
I lived in Port Chalmers, New Zealand at the time of our acquaintance & now in Timaru.

    Hi Brook Johnson

Do you remember the name of the deceased cadet that you mention?
I met & corresponded with a cadet around that time who had a fatal accident on the Otaio.
We met at my home town of Port Chalmers NZ. I was later told of his tragic accident but only the brief details. I have never forgotten him.
I hope you don't mind me approaching you with this sad topic.

Hi Brian I was on the Otaio when she docked in Avonmouth . Went on leave joined again took her to Antwerp then back to London which as you say was empty .
I left in London after conflict of interest with the C O . I went by the name of JC the AB . Ring any bells.

Hi Terry. Just joined this great site. I was a deck cadet on the Otaio - joining it in May 1969. Any chance of a copy of the DVD too? Kind regards. Gary (Jones)

Hi Terry I have just found and joined this site. I was an engineer cadet aboard the Otaio in 1964/65 doing 2 trips out to Australia and NZ with stops on the way. I can see you have a DVD of the Otaio i would love to have a momento of the Otaio like this, what should I do? I now live in Austria.

Hi Terry. I can't seem to navigate this site. I have put a message on here about your DVD of the Otaio but now can't see the message. I was an engineering cadet on Otaio 64/65. I would love a copy of the video, any chance please. I have a few b&w photos of life on board and if I could find out how I would post them somewhere. Also just one maybe unusual anecdote of a fire in the engine room when leaving Opua. I was controlling the port engine at the time, for the first time ever, and the third, who was standing hind me ensuring I did everything correctly, very important when in the Bay of Islands, had to dash off.

Hi Terry I was an engineering cadet on the Otaio in 1965/66 completing 2 circumnavigations. I would be very interested in any tape/DVD of the Otaio. I have tried to contact you before on this site and apparently failed as I have never had any notification. Can you please email me separately to say yes or no to this request. Thanks. Email is david_greenshields@hotmail.co.uk , it is an underscore between my name's.
