Doing a John Sabourn

On Sat my wife did what can only be described as a John Sabourn.
I was cleaning the bathroom when I heard this crash and my wife screamed out "Help me." I raced into the kitchen and my wife was lying on the floor, she had twisted her foot and fell backwards and hit her head on the corner of the fridge, I thought, not a hip break please, and John's injury flashed before my eyes. After I had got her up and she was sitting down, I felt her head, huge lump there plus pain on her hip bone. I insisted I take her to the hospital, where she was examined but nothing broken, as she has only 11% Kidney function I was worried, but next day being both Fathers Day and MN Day, she insisted we go to the Club for dinner as she had booked. The one thing we couldn''t make out was she was carrying a glass of whisky to put on the pudding, the glass was a very old very thin wine glass which she dropped, but it didn't have a scratch on it.

I fell once again on Saturday Des just picking up the newspaper , have discovered what is making me fall over is my blood pressure and am now taking 18 tablets a day all for different things though. My wife also fell over a few months ago and went off in an ambulance for the usual tests , came home in a taxi about 0400 hours with all the wires still attached to her off the monitors walked out and jumped in a taxi , which I had to pay for, when asked her what she was doing at home she just said she came to with a lot of dirty old men snoring in the ward so decided to come home , it was before we lost our driving licences so I was able to disconnect all the cables to her as take them back to the hospital come daylight . No one seemed to want to stop her leaving ,or maybe they all had their heads down.
Hope your missus now ok and both look after each other it’s how we all finish up .

As to the glass.....Well the glass can be half empty or half full....as long as there's whisky in it...... and that she achieved

Low blood pressure often is the reason for a fall.
If the patient feels a bit dizzy then a couple of spoon full's of sugar in water or a large glass of lemonade will fix it.

Many say they fell and broke their hip.NO.
The hip goes that is why they fall,

Des, maybe consider some tougher glasses just in case.

#4 Up until 3 hours ago Marian I had a broken one of those pickerer up things when I picked the paper up I felt myself going and should have shouted Timbeeeeer , instead I forgot it was a flimsy tool and tried to use it as a walking stick hence it snapped. I should have still shouted timber because I still finished up where I was destined to be with the wife pulling me up off the front lawn . Hope all these old neighbours of mine were still in bed and didn’t have a laugh at me cavorting on the grass at 0800 hrs. Have just sent away for another picker up , am lost without it . Think I should buy a stock of them to have in reserve. Cheers JS
John in Oz … my blood pressure is high not low at present. It goes over 200 and has done for years ,I monitor it to be in the fashion these days , it was high when I was 16 and first at sea , every medical I have had it has been high . When young they don’t seem to care but when 62 the shipping doctor in Fremantle wouldn’t pass me for sea until I got it down I wore a monitor for a week and went on the drugs before he would sign the paper . He was a health freak and expected you to be an astronaut. Anyhow all his good health didnt do him much good as he died years ago and was younger than me . My previous doctor thought onetime Iwas having a heart attack and sent me off in a screaming ambulance to hospital ,they put the camera up and said the blood had found a different passage around the heart and would not put stints in , saw a specialist a few times and nearly broke his exercise bike going too fast stop stop he says you’ll have a heart attack , and signed me off. I reckon if they wanted to be kind to their patients the test for durability shouldn’t be a bike, but a bottle of whiskey and a blonde, if you failed the test at least you died happy , and if you passed you would always be coming back for a recheck. Aware now you have given this health malarky and short cuts round it some thought John Normally I would say good for you. Ponder this though for next time, any simple unplanned move and you may land back in the dreaded hospital. Now I treat those stays like a poor womans health spa, the food is tosh but hey no household chores and breakfast in bed! Men though are different of course and I've never met one who would relish same. Tread carefully that's all I'm saying.


Your latest descend reminds me of an old similar situation. My parents having stayed over at mine left early the next morning. Dad stopped for petrol and the Sunday papers. Handing them to my mum he then decided to put air in a tyre. That done he stood up too quickly and lost his balance. There he was lolling around his square footage in the forecourt trying to get off his back, eventually he managed to roll caught hold of the car and got on to his knees. He replaced the air pump. Flustered he clambered back inside asking my mum 'Did you not hear me calling' Apparently she was so engrossed in the paper she was oblivious to him and his antics.

It’s a toss up between me and Gwen whose the most incapacitated her hands are useless she can’t even take a jam jar lid off , so I’m the Boy Scout there , her memory is going faster than mine . Either that or it is more selective than mine . The few times I have fallen with people around I do wish they would stand away and let me take my own time to try and get up , their intentions are good but they could make matters worse. Still it could be worse I suppose . The last time I saw my old man was out here in Australia about 1998 I was going back to work up North and he was off back home the following week so being the happy chappie he was he said farewell to me there and then before I got in the airport taxi. I probably won’t see you again he says as feel it’s just about my time , but never mind you’ll not be long behind me , those words have followed me around ever since and that was about 25 years ago. Don’t think he ever forgave me for not going into the building trade with him . JS

Had one of them monitors about 15 years ago .......the nurse said take it easy and you will not need medication.......i walked ab out at the speed of a penguin in gentle gate ......on the third night my old mother with alziemers ..rang me at 10 pm shouting a man was trying to smash his way into the house ......i rang my brother who lived near her to check but it was all in her head ........i told the nurse on taking the monitor back to be checked of the day and time of the panic ........she said she had a laugh when checking the monitor as if i didnt have a cardiac arrest them i probably never would such is life.....R683532....CAPPY
