Ellermans
Hi Bill .
My name is Alan Bland(north Shields)seeing your thread brought back memories,
Ijoined Ellerman Lines in 1955 ,after two years with Royal mail as Electrician,
My fist post with City Line(E&B))was relieving on City of Winchester,then joined Cityof Exeter as 2nd Lecky,
where I sailed on her from 1955to 1959,she was a very happy ship (with the best ships football team on South African coast(thats my opinion);
They dont build them like that anymore (propper ships)
I am anew member ,great site

Thanks for the infor on Ian bailey. I've just joined the site.
Sailed on three Ellerman ships as Radio Officer - City of Bristol 1964 (ex Wilson's); City of Johannesburg 1966-67; City of York 1967 until they sold her out from under me in 1971. The latter was one of the so-called "Big Four" - included City of Exeter, City of Port Elizabeth and City of Durban. All on a liner run from U.K.- Continent to South Africa and Mozambique. 150 passengers and 10,000 tons of cargo and you couldn't have thought up a better combination for happy voyages than that. I still miss it.
Regards
Jim

Hi Mouseman,
Did you get a colour photo of the City of Brisbane? If you didn't let me know as I have one of her chucking out black smoke. Was on her for a short time in 66.
