Bosun James Ryan
Hi,
I'm looking to see if anyone has any information on James Ryan? He was my great-grandfather. As far as I believe, he was a bosun on the 'Flaminian', and was at sea until 1967- if I remember correctly. He was from Waterford but must have settled in Liverpool around the 1920's or 30's. Any information or anything at all to do with him, I'd be eternally grateful to hear, as he's always been an interesting character to me but I never got the chance to meet him. Also, if anyone does remember him, I don't mind whether it's good or bad!

Not sure I have the correct James, shall wait for Daniel to confirm.
Thanks for the welcomes! Unfortunately not, I do have some early records from when he was a baby but anything to do with him joining the navy, settling in Liverpool etc. is proving really difficult. I know he first went to sea when he was around fourteen and I think after he retired from the navy he became a night watchmen for boats on the river Mersey. The problem is with family history is different relative tell you completely different things!

Aye, again that's him. He never really settled into life on land. After all, he was sea for all but about 24 years of his life in total, that's what makes him so interesting and mysterious to me!
