Very long shot - William George Evans
Hello all,
I know this is very unlikely but I'm currently researching my great grandfather William George Evans, b. 1899. He sailed very often on Elder Demspter ships back and forward to Lagos working as a civil servant in some capacity. He died in Jos in 1962 involved in tin mining as far as I know.
Just wondering if anyone has any memory of him or has any leads for me to find any more information - archives, records, passenger lists (apart from those on ancestry.com)
Thanks very much in advance and warm regards to all,
Cameron Evans

Re: Very long shot - William George Evans
Hello
Perhaps you could try the 1915 Crew Lists. You might find him there.

Re: Very long shot - William George Evans
Hi Brenda,
Thanks very much for your reply - unfortunately he was too young in 1915 (although from his service records it looks like he lied about his age to fight in the war) - so he isn't on the crew lists!
Thanks very much anyway, Cameron

Re: Very long shot - William George Evans
Hi Keith,
Thanks for your reply. He was born in 1899 in Broseley, Shropshire. Fought for the Royal Scots Fusiliers in WW1, moved to Coventry at some point and moved back and forth between Nigeria and the UK until his death in 1962 (Jos Hospital, Nigeria). His parents were John and Adela Evans (née Hesom) and he married a Glwadys Luena Price Lewis in 1932 I think but she never seems to appear on travel documents with him.
Again thanks very much, all and any input is very helpful when looking for this very slippery character!
Kind regards, Cameron

Re: Very long shot - William George Evans
Hi Brenda, Keith,
Thanks both very much for your ideas - I've had a look at the ED website and will email the admin for any more clues! Think one has to visit the Merseyside maritime museum in order to see ED archives (tricky as I live in South of France).
Keith, I have most of his life in the UK including marriage and birth fairly well documented however what has recently peaked my interest has been his time spent travelling and at sea! Thanks very much for the input though, I appreciate anything you can suggest that I might have missed.

Re: Very long shot - William George Evans
Glad you have much info but for us we start at square one,
Initially trying to find we have the correct person and how
they are recorded. Fingers crossed for more. Keith.
PS: Do you think they may have divorced and she possibly remarried ?
A PERSON OF SIMILAR NAME TO: Luena M Lewis KEEPS COMING UP
WITH A LATER MARRIAGE AND DIFFERENT GROOM.
Regret the typ[ng and any errors, eyes are still not to good.
