Re: Info on Harold Corry
Hi Doc, thanks for the swift follow up and the links/advice and will try and follow up today. Harold passed many years ago and a lot of info went with him so Honour only has rough details on his service other than he was in Belfast and eventually settled in Liverpool after the war. The main thing she does believe is correct is that he was on two E&F ships that were unfortunatley sunk during the war and that he was rescued from. I think I will try and research from that point. She also says that he did have medals but these were lost many years ago so I would like to replace them for her if I can. If there is anyone that can add any more advice or leads that would be much appreciated and thanks again, cheers Will

Re: Info on Harold Corry
Hi All,
I have some new info on Harold. His discharge number is listed as 866761 and anotated next to his name is the following: 1939 (circled and crossed), AT (circled) CL (circled) and at the end of the line WM (circled with possibly 2/1 written) there is also a final number: 13767. I'm hoping this denotes the medals he was awarded but any advice/ info on what that means would be really helpful, thanks again, cheers Will

Re: Info on Harold Corry
I just replied to this post and it disappeared so again, are you sure those letters CL AT WM come from a shipping source ? I can think of similar letters but nothing to do with shipping.
Regards JS
Will I see you work for the MOD I would of thought that the records they had may have covered what you were after , when I applied for a free MN Badge a few years ago , by return of email was sent the veterans badge from the Mod who had my records when I worked for them late 70s early 80s. I never knew until then that big brother was watching.Hope you find what you are looking for and the lady must feel lucky to have you searching for her. Best of luck. JS

Hello Will
Re your Quote
1939 (circled and crossed), AT (circled) CL (circled) and at the end of the line WM (circled with possibly 2/1 written) there is also a final number: 13767.
So he did receive some Medals , that is good , so cannot understand why i cannot trace them at all. But will delve again Today and see.
1939/45 Star crossed and circled
AT Atlantic Star Circled
CL Clasp
- a cross through a code, indicating that the medal was issued
- a circle over a code, indicating that only the ribbon for that medal has been issued
- a cross and a circle, indicating that both a medal and a ribbon have been issued
That last Number i am not too sure of but may be just for record purposes

Will , Did he Die at Sea ???
866761 This Number does not seem to come up anywhere on the Archives? Have also tried it with the R Prefix. ???

Re: Info on Harold Corry
Hi Doc, this is amazing stuff. I'm actually on holiday in Italy with his Granddaughter Leonie at the moment and she was brought to happy tears with this info thus far. I am lucky ref access to the MOD Medal Office as I work on the same site where they are based so will be speaking to them next week on the medal details . As soon as I find anything more I will post so all can see the breakdown / meaning of the various references for future awareness. Following on do you know what E&F ships were sunk during the war and when. I'm hoping there was no or little loss of life when this happened but cannot imagine what that would have felt like to those that endured that happening. Thanks again, very, very much appreciated, cheers Will

As for the ships well i will have to scratch around some , but for now just this little site telling of some losses during the War Period. Of course not a full listing and nothing about casualties.

By the way that first Ship noted was the Manzanares Built 1911. ( Manzanares (1) 1911 1935 transferred to "Union" Handels, Bremerhaven, renamed Vegesack, 1939 wrecked near Stavanger._)
