Good one James. I never gave it a thought as to definition of Firestorm. I've hunted it up and still am no wiser, I have found 3 definitions : An enlarging of fire feeding and growing caused by massive bombing. Nuclear or incendiary. A fire that generates its own winds. Tornado winds that rush together. I hope you haven't started a firestorm of responses. Cheers, Rodney

    Hi Rod.
Fire storms are the most dangerous as they can carry embers for miles. Example, When we moved over to NZ when the extreme heat and fires where to much, we lived in the top of the North Island in Whangarei, there where some fierce fires in Queensland, burnt laves where drifting down on our garden there , they came all te way across the Tasman, not a problem, but showed just how far a wind can carry leaves burning or not.

When people talk about fire balls and suchlike I feel as though someone has walked over my grave. My immediate thoughts are to that song Great Balls Of Fire , immediately
followed by the late evening in July, and early morning of the following day in July 1988 , when a great ball of fire was proceeding at knots towards my face whilst opening
and closing the centre wheelhouse window to equalize the outside and inside air pressures If I was a Catholic and there had been a priest present I would have asked for Absolution.
After looking up and finding myself still alive I learned that miracles do happen. However as said in another post this same fireball went for a frc killing 8 of its occupants, and believe to
This day that this evil monstrosity was looking for fuel to prolong its life , the frc exuding petrol fumes is the only reason I can come up with.As for arsonists who are the cause of a lot of
bush fires , the penalty when caught should be they have their testicles burnt off. I hate fire. JS…

Bush fires do indeed create their own wind speed.
That is one of the major problems with them, no matter the natural speed the fire will create its own.
This can make fie fighting so dangerous as the wind can suddenly change direction and spread the fire further.
One of the biggest problems here in Oz with bush fire sis just that, most of the land being so flat.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
