Sacked for being pregnant

A woman has been awarded £28000 by an employment tribunal. Reason is she fell pregnant agin while still on maternity leave.
Reading the article it does not mention Mrs only Ms also does not mention if the father is the same father to her first child.
I am all in favour of workers rights but what about Employers rights, especially if they are a small operation.

Anyone on site ever get maternity leave? be very surprised if anyone did.
I am sure plenty went to sea when the wife fell pregnant and would not surprise me if on occassion the baby was 18 moths old or older by the time papa signed off.

There have been over the years a number of cases here in Oz where the female who had been potted fell out with her employer.

There were cases where the employer claimed that the nature of the job was not suited to a person in such a condition.
But now our laws are such that it is almost impossible to be discharged fort being in such a condition.

Maternity leave now is better in some instances than annual leave, as a result some employers are hesitant to employ female workers.

Ridiculous and unfair on any empolyer as a woman can claim maternity leave every time she falls pregnant. Men can claim paternity leave. Any wonder why some companies say to hell with this and move offshore to somewhere that maternity leave PAY does not fall on the employer.

My wifes cousins daughter fell pregnant just before she started a new job she kept mum during the interview now on maternity leave. The guy is a small local business and taking a hit like paying someone while not working is having an impact on any plans he had on expanding what they do. Governments come up with these laws but come on. We have a two child benifit cap here in the UK. It has really pis-ed off those that breed like rabbits as it impacts what benifits they get.
