Re: Chinese weather ballon????
The fact remains that all countries be they western or other are spying on some other country somewhere.
It s quite possible the Yanks knew exactly what was in that balloon before it was shot down, but have to look astonished for a good look for the rest of the world.
There is so much going on we do not know about, and we do not know we do not know about them, but what makes that worse is we do not know we do not know that we do not know. And we do not even know that!!

(2)A question for all the navigators on site. How did those balloons get into the far Northern climes from China?
Des
(1) Because after shooting down #1 they had ascertained what they contained, also the other three were all over unpopulated areas, all of which can be read in all kinds of media
(2) Air currents/trade winds/jet streams all of which follow a pattern

Re: Chinese weather ballon????
What we plebs think or feel about all this means nothing, it's the fatcats that rule. If they can pay £1 for something from china and sell it to us for £40, then that's all that matters while we buy it. Same goes for other Asian producers.
When the balloon goes up, none of these fatcats will be blown to bits, only the plebs.
But, what kind of a pleb do we want to be? a Chinese pleb? a Russian pleb? I'm a UK pleb, and hope it stays that way, as bad as it may seem sometimes.

Totally agree, during my business life I traded with 44 countries and negotiated with China, I was quite wary of dealing with them and I didn't mind supplying maintenance manuals/spare part manuals, but when they asked for workshop drawings the negotiations came to a full stop, as I knew I would only make one sale, so I didn't make any (early 1990's)
I was watching an interview on Al-Jazeera not too long ago with a Chinese businessman and he was asked how much they spent on Research and Development to which he replied very little, we have no need to, the West have their equipment built in China, we reverse engineer it and improve on it for our own consumption only. The conversation started by the interviewer asking how they could build so many islands in the South China Sea so quickly and why their dredgers were so efficient and the conversation evolved from there. The West is slow to learn.

Re: Chinese weather ballon????
I think it was John Strange mentioned last week about CCTV cameras are mostly of Chinese manufacture. On the news this morning there was a report that UK police forces are shot through with Chinese survellance cameras, why??
Ben wallance was asked if this was a threat. They are not fitted in any sensitive areas.
Well I think Matt Handcock may disagree

Re: Chinese weather ballon????
James, i have just posted on the Chinese thread the link for that report, i also said my eldest son who is in IT and research, has stated for years that pretty much all the routers we are all using right now, have Chinese spyware installed, heaven knows what else in the computer world, the Chinese have their fingers in to everything , from African copper mines, to large English estates. very difficult not to buy Chinese goods, virtually everything produced in China.

Des, they use as much as possible that will not draw attention to it.
A balloon may well be seen as just a weather balloon which few will take notice of.
Now every one will be walking along looking at the sky.

According to RAF the balloon has a higher flight ceiling than any civil or military aircraft without going into space where items can be easily tracked, as it was hovering over certain areas it suggests that it had controllable propellers in the pontoon/basket and that if fitted with cameras they would provide better definition than from a satellite which requires a specialised camera and cannot hover to get real time sequence rather than once every hour or few hours known as orbital sequence
