Well why did the Chinese not inform the US that they have lost control of a WEATHER ballon. Why are they making a song and dance about. They could have asked the US to take it down as it could become a danger to aircraft as it would eventually lose altitude. I assume the longer it is up there the Helium gas would deplete.
Surely it would have made more sense to recover it and see what it was actually carrying. Bit like using a BIG hammer to crack a nut. The missile used likely as not cost Thousands of tax $$$$$
