Apologies Vic, But Mrs T completed the deal Free school milk was a hugely contentious issue in the 1970s. ‘ Thatcher, Thatcher the Milk Snatcher’ was commonly heard after the woman herself (she was the Secretary of State for Education at the time) authorised the end to free school milk for children over seven in 1971.. But give her her dues she never did a U turn or did she !!!! Mrs Thatcher's insistence, that she did not negotiate with terrorists. Well we all know that to be a bare faced lie, she was already talking to the IRA.

The contacts took place through an MI6 officer and a secret back-channel to the IRA code-named Soon.

Soon was Londonderry businessman Brendan Duddy.

Voting age should be from the age of 18.
YouGov’s latest tracking data on an independence vote shows that, if there was a vote today, the outcome would be identical to how it was in 2014, with 55% saying they would vote No and 45% Yes. Since the referendum, support for remaining in the UK has tended to be above support for leaving, and while in 2020 we saw the biggest Yes lead of any YouGov poll at 53%, this support has dwindled in subsequent polls through 2021 and 2022.

The hunger strike with Bobby Sands was not just news in UK, it was big news here in Oz with a number of groups attempting to find ways to end it.

As to Scotland, from comments made by people I know in Scotland most are very happy with the status Quo.

As to Ireland, there will only be reunification when ALL parties involved agree and with the backing of the people.
The further south you go the less the desire for such.

The new Tory chancellor has reversed his decision to give the top 1% of the wealthy tax cuts. This comes after a rebellion from senior ministers and MP's inside his own party. Self preservation is the main priority here, not risking losing their jobs and comfortable lifestyle in a Tory wipe out at the next election. Unfortunately for mortgage holders the damage has already been done with increases in their monthly repayments with more interest rate increases due shortly.
He is now looking at a tried and tested Tory policy of hitting the poor and most vulnerable people with cuts to their benefit payments to raise money for government spending. If this goes ahead there will even more boarded up shops and businesses closing because of the lack of customers using them.
The only light on the horizon is in two years' time we will have a Labour government.

I think that parliament will not allow this crazy things through, this is all going to cost the Tory party dearly, and they are realising it’s now unstoppable for a wipeout next time round. The next party they are going to upset are the pensioners, a vey large voting section. I think she may run out of time before the two years. I think if you check the wording it was once in a generation.
Douglas Ross claimed in his BBC Good Morning Scotland interview that Nicola Sturgeon signed an agreement with the UK and Scottish Governments that the 2014 referendum would be a “once in a generation” vote.

In her role as deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon signed a document, known as the Edinburgh agreement, between the UK and Scottish Governments on 15 October 2012. The agreement set out how the two governments would work together to ensure the 2014 independence referendum could take place.

This document did not commit to the referendum being a “once in a generation” event, but did commit them to ensuring that the referendum result would “deliver a fair test and a decisive expression of the views of people in Scotland and a result that everyone will respect”.

Ferret Fact Service could find no evidence of Nicola Sturgeon signing an agreement that a referendum would be a “once in a generation” vote.

However, senior SNP figures, including then First Minister Alex Salmond, said that the referendum would be a “once in a generation opportunity” for Scotland.

The Scottish Government’s 2013 white paper, Scotland’s Future, which made the case for Scottish independence, also defined the referendum as a “once in a generation opportunity”.

The shops are going empty for two reasons ......one the council taxes to keep the councils on there gold plated pensions.. of which they contribute nothing except that which they take of the workers who pay there fat cat wages and income... there financial input is nil... secondly ....the turn towards people buying online is an absolute killer to councils incomes as the shops are now going down like ninepins .....plus people are working from home many majestic looking office blocks are now empty......but the benifiteers still squark for more while giving nix in return......your views are utopian louis ....while there a hundreds of thousands of job vacancies ....how the feck can anyone expect more handouts .....as for a labour government .....you were calling that a forgone conclusion at the last election...and the one before that and the one before that....not in your or mine lifetime louis your trying to push water up hill again ...R683532
