    Hi Bernedine
Welcome to the site, hope you will soon get some replies relating to your query!
    Cheers

Just an extract from the Net,there are 2 Guys mentioned here! Any memories??

The 19-year-old England, one of the most popular and successful Ferries to be used in the North Sea goes south for service in the Falkland Islands.

Built in Helsingor and powered by two Burmeister & Wain 10-cylinder diesels, giving a maximum speed of 22 knots, England entered service as a three-class ship capable of carrying 155 First, 240 Second and 64 Third Class passengers.

When I joined the England my first thought on Cape Town Docks was How Small! I was a Bedroom Steward and looked after about 60 passengers who were all labourers going to the Falkland Islands to rebuild the Airport runway.

Six months work then home again. Most of them were Northern lads and very good to look after. Completely different from P&O passengers. It was on this ship I met my Scottish friend Sandy Dawson. He worked as a Bedroom Steward too.

It was a very easygoing ship, which I think was because it was such a bum trip. Two weeks to Falklands, two weeks back to Cape Town and turn around in a day. Sometimes it was a bit longer in Cape Town and we made the most of it. Norman Brice Jnr
