As you saied as Chief Steward on the Andania you will I am sure also know my 1st cousin ( now passed) Frank Cannon, a well know character in Cunard.

Hi Mike, Nice to hear from you but reaally sorry to hear that Frank had passed away. He indeed was a good mate of mine,we were forever relieving on Cunard cargo boats all thru sixties.. I lost touch whwn I left Cunard in 1972 and went on the ferries etc till 1977 when I went on to oil rigs,Saudi Arabia and finally Libyawhich I retired from 1996. I cant quite remember when it was but did stay with Frank & family and made very welcome. Of course lots of Liverpudlian shipmates over the years. Frank was a real character, typical scouser and great mate. I think when I stayed he had left Cunard also and was working as fork lift driver ?Remember his daughter who I had obviosly met years previously and was grown up and married.
Happy times
Best of luck Stuart

Andania
I was on the Andania in 1966. working as an Ass/stwd, I loved that ship, I don't like aft accomadation, so the Andania was just right. I think that she is now in China, if not scrapped. Take care.... Terry

Bob, Dont think it was the C'Stwd,as soon as I saw Glasgow in your message recalled the run in those days NYC and east coast ports with a cargo of 10000 tons of the finest Scottish export (containers in their infancy ) and I recall many breakages and other mishaps which allowed a very carefree and happy atmoshpere to spread all round that fine vessel.
Hic hic

Hi Stuart, yes a great time was had by all,i remember being on stand bye on the wing of the bridge leaveing Glasgow when a head poped up in one of the whinch cabs,a warfie had passed out ond we had missed him when clewing up,the look on his face, and that of the old man was priceless .The cheif steward( bless him) sold us as much beer as we could handle to keep us of the hard stuff ,but still the amber stuff found its way to us, as you can see by my last post it cost me in the end, a foot note i cant stand the stuff now regards Bob c

Cunard "A" Ships
I do believe the ocean bed from Glasgow to New York, Boston, etc was littered with empty premium Scotch bottles !!!
