    Default Listing

Bit in the news today of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship that hit some rough seas off the coast of the Canary islands.
It was hit by what the writer called a sudden squall, the ship listed at about 45 degrees for some time.
Two bloods were injured and photos of the mess were of great interest.

But the ships name was not mentioned in the article.
Som of their ships are big and do give the impression of being top heavy.

Then another giant ship is on her way.
The Norwegian Joy, looks far too big for any practical cruise.

For me, I will stick with the max 3500 blood ones thank you.

I watched a TV programme many years ago, showing one of the mega ships at that time being loaded.
The hull was fitted with strain gauges and all connected to a computer, loading had to be done in the correct sequence or the hull could be damaged, very little of these ships is under water compare by liners of yester year.
Normally the modern day liners will if possible circumvent a storm.

The liners I liked had a complement of 40 - 60 souls, 16 -20 sticks with a big stick at #2 and tramped around the world

Was only on one passenger ship and that was the Southern Cross while emigrating, I am forever grateful for that trip; as that is where I met my wife.

Des, from what I heard many a couple met for the first time on her and other 10 pound Pom ships during the 50's and 60's.
