If you ever wonder how these mammoth new cruise ships are built and how much of them are above the waterline take a look at this.

Got to say they are amazing. I don't really like those big ones, but it is amazing how they react in rough weather. All the ships we've cruised on hardly move at all, even in hurricanes. We were on one before Christmas, with the wind on the port side, and it just leaned over without levelling off. It did straighten up an odd time, and that's when many passengers fell over they were so used to having one foot on the bulk head and one on the deck. There is of course a slight exaggeration in my description, but you know what I mean.
My favourite cruises were on the last Oriana, we did about 14ish cruises on her. At least there was a feeling that you were on a ship at sea, I used to sleep like a log in the night, which I find not so great on the newer, silent beasts, where you don't feel any movement, just hear next doors bloody telly.

Many sections are made up way away from the shipyard and brought in.
Building time is not as long as one may imagine.
Most now are built in the Italian ship yards.

I can imagine James Bond asking the waiter for a drink, well shaken , and the waiter saying you have got that right sir. They look like a block of flats .
