The road to alang.
Here is a link,,
http://www.midshipcentury.com/videoalang1.shtml
the story and photos of many ships that have ended their days in that graveyard of Alang, maybe some of your old ships are in there.
Sylvania, Saxonia, Transvaal Castle, Kenya Castle, Ivernia / Franconia. Empress of Canada, Ocfordshirem Winston Churchill and so on, there are updates in the other volumes on the popular ships of today, 6, 7, and so on.
Very interesting

To Captain Kong.
Rod Mills. South Carolina.
Thanks for the interesting but sad link. I was married on Saturday and sailed for Montreal on Wednesday in 1958 on the Sylvania. I was 20 my bride was 18 and we had fifty pounds, then the legal limit one could take out of the U.K.. Was strange being a Blood after 4 years in the M.N.,
Thanks once again. Good sailing, Rod.

Re: The road to alang.
Worked fine for me though had to use the home button before the images would load.
The story of the empress of Canada was interesting to me as I sailed on her in her last season of crossing. Reading what carnival did to some of her fittings was sad but good to hear that her next owners restored or removed the worst of carnivals makeover.

Re: The road to alang.
elsewhere i have posted the latest development regarding cruise ships having arrived at aliaga - monarch x monarch of the seas and sovereign x sovereign of the seas - arrived with in days of each other this last week - carnival fantasy en route plus one other - a lot of ship companies are selling off their fleet - ie - rotterdam - amsterdam - veendam and maasdam are heading to fred olsen - the astor - marco polo - magalon - operators have filed for bankruptcy - and the amount of cruise ships in lay up due to the pandemic has caught everyone off guard - our focus on ship spotting will take on newer pastures - namely the breakers - if this thread continues monarch (1).jpgsovereign.jpg

Hi Bryan
There was something on the news the other day about an explosion in alang, the wife changed the channel just as they were talking about it, did you hear anything?

Re: The road to alaiga
and then there were 4 - the carnival inspiration was beached - or rather rammed in between the fantasy and the sovereign on thursday - making this a very rare opportunity to see 4 cruise ships - side by side - and all beached within a 3 week period - if you look closer the sovereign has already lost part of her bow - which is odd considering the monarch arrived before her
