Ref #20, 6th Dec. There was also evidence from the repairs required on MV Sir Alexander Glen and MV Cast Kittewake, both of which had major defects on bulkhead #65. I joined Sir Alexander Glen as 2nd/Eng, 20/07/82 in Oita, Japan where she was at the initial stages of repair of the bulkhead #65, having been alerted to the possible problem on passage from Sept Isle with an identical cargo to that being carried on MV Derbyshire a year earlier. The crew on SAG were continually inspecting the defective area as well as their underpants for the remainder of the voyage. To my mind the defect to bulkhed #65 on all the sister ships was the primary reason for the loss of Derbyshire. Swans, who were a nationalised company, were not the only culprits in this major incident. Culpability stretched to the owners who ordered the ships, and HMG whose safety inspectorate passed the design and construction method. Maggy should have hung her head in shame for trying to cover up the whole sad episode.
Well Vernon IF the weather men are correct, and that is always a very big IF then we are in for some very good weather in the new year.
But of course which new year is open to subject.
La Nina is supposed to leave our shores to be replaced next year with El Nino, and you know what that means.
