Re: another cruise to the breakers
Makes one wonder when they send nice looking ships to the breakers and keep those ugly cattle boats they call Cruise ships.

Re: another cruise to the breakers
Sad to see this old girl hit the beech but unless she could have been placed somewhere as tourist attraction? She was built in Sweden in the early 70's.
Wärtsilä Helsinki Shipyard, Finland she entered service in 1972. She was 50 years old, she would be health hazard, loads of asbestos, dirty engine emissions. High fuel consumption by todays standards so just not efficient. The cost of spare parts for keeping those engines running. Also they would be difficult to source as would other spares required. I don't know maybe she has been re-engined during her life?
The modern cruise world to me just seems to be aimed at bums on seats , horrorible looking things. For all that they are an engineering marvel, just floating cities, but a tragedy waiting to happen most likely caused by collision or fire.
