A lot of older tonnage have hit the beach in Alang in India. I think someone posted the other day that two were sold to someone else on the proviso they would continue cruising only to be sold at twice the price to Indian breakers.
As said cruise companies must be taking a pounding, but a lot of shipping companies do not own the ships they are owned by the Banks so no doubt the companies can just pay a penalty and tell which ever bank the ignition keys are under the door mat by the entrance to the bridge. The sad thing is the thousands of seafarers who have lost there jobs and I bet many have been left stranded around the world.

That quip about ignition keys reminded me of a conversation back in 76.
En route with 6 other engineers travelling to Brunei Bay to reactivate a laid up 315,000 ton job. Had an overnight in Singapore so went to the Tangle Inn, and was chatting to a British guy who was there teaching maths, he thought we would be back in a day or two as he thought it was just a case of turning an ignition key.

Yes the cruise industry has been hit hard, some worse than others.
Local cruising around Oz is to begin again in June, but time will tell.

Many of the companies are controlled by the USA system even though they may not be sailing from USA ports or in USA waters.

But judging by the number of bookings being made I think when it does resume it will be all on for all.
I booked one for Christmas/New Year this year and it is now fully booked.
Another around Oz in November I have has only few berths left.

Here is Saga cruises new vessel Spirit of Adventure, leaving the Tyne for Belfast, boutique cruises for 999 passengers. Not a bad looking job, wonder if they are still employing Brits, met a cadet some years ago who was serving his cadetship on the old SAGA RUBY.

I feel sure that they are ex HAL vssls 'Rotterdam' and 'Amsterdam' they were anchored here in Torbay for about 6 months, seem to recognise their profile.

Could well be, a large number of cruise ships over the last year have either been sent to Alang or sold to other companies to be refurbished.
A number haver been sold then leased back, cheaper than ownership.

Spirit of Adventure is brand new, built by Meyer Werft then straight into lay up on completion in 2020
