Ruby Princess did the correct reporting. Instead of physically checking the reported fever etc cases, the NSW Health Department classed the ship as low risk and allowed the pax to disembark. It was only after pax ashore tested positive, that the debacle escalated. We had the ABF (Customs) top official on TV today saying they had been given approval by the Health Department to allow pax to go ashore. The blame game is alive and well.
Another ship arrived in Melbourne recently with a number of fever etc cases on board and the Victorian Health Department officials boarded shortly after arrival (no one else was allowed to board or debark) to take swabs and, until they were cleared (all tested negative luckily), all the pax stayed on board (until approx. 1545). This should have occurred in Sydney on the Ruby Princess in my view.
    Stay safe

    Aye John.
And passing the buck it is, I think that a lot of bucks changed hands, the shipping Company's are desperate to avoid another Japanese hold up.

Up to three more cruise ships heading for Freeo.
    WA premier said no go.
One ship has 800 Ozzies on her all will be transferred to Rotnest Island to do two weeks inside.
One ship will be refueled then it is on your way Buster.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

The NSW premier was on the box the other day with the health minister and you could see that she was protecting her minister from the media. What a stuff up that was along with everything else that our premier has ever touched while in politics.
That's the way the mop flops.

Les mate, she is no better or worse than any of them.
Sadly none of them live in the real world, if they did things would be a lot better than they are.

My sister was on the Ruby Princess. She was sharing a cabin with her best friend who in fact was the lady that died.
There were no health checks upon boarding, ie temperature , like I had recently boarding a ship in UK.
The lady visited the sick bay on consecutive days but was only properly diagnosed on the 2nd day, the day before berthing in Sydney.
There were many others on board with coughs at the time.
Once berthed she was rushed off to hospital and as my sister says they couldn't have got everybody off any faster !
She's now in isolation at home with no symptoms so far, fingers crossed.
In my opinion there has been a cover up either from the ship or Sydney Health authorities to get the ship emptied and back out.

Regarding post #27. John they are blaming each other here between state and commonwealth governments but think that if one was to check out the passengers that one would find a link between the health minister or one of her chief advisors. Having said that I do not think that we can blame her for the death of the woman as she was already infected and the result would have been the same whether on board or ashore. At least it has spurred the other states to learn from her mistake. Good to hear that your sister is looking good after the experience mate. Reckon as you say that the captain could not disembark the passengers any quicker if he tried to relieve the company of them. As has been doing the rounds for a while? This government has been spouting over the years as to how they have stopped the boats except the one that really mattered in Sydney LOL. Maybe they will start getting a resumption of people smugglers up north trying to get Aussies back home LOL. Just got to love Australia and all its disasters have you not. But cutting down the intact of grog is going one step to far.

    Les.
As you know, a short list of what disasters she has accomplished, Sacked the parks and wild life fire officers we then had the fires, sold the poles and wires no more profit for the Govt, like Queensland who give a $50 payback to all. payed for and then sold the Motorway tolls. I can go on for pages, but to let those people off the Ruby Princess put the icing on the cake.

There was a time, not so long ago when before boarding you had to complete a health condition form.
That is no longer in place.

The lady who passed away was according to our news a 70 year old man one day and a 69 year old lady the next, typical of our media here.

Latest on the news, our PM has said n ow that all returning persons to Oz will go into a 14 day confinement at the govs expence.
No matter where you live you will be taken in to a hostel at your point of arrival.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Re post #29

Des the list goes on and on with her even before being premier. Minister for Transport and they are still trying to sort out the mess she made of that. Finance Minister and we know how that was screwed up while she was there. There are other incidents of her ineptitude but old timers has crept into this old nogging. As they say? You can always pick the most corrupt politician in any country as they end up as the head honcho. Followed by all the apprentices.
