#9 My mistake, it would appear that the anchor chain shown in the video is from the pleasure craft

If the thrusters were working she must have had some power.
But coming in to that port there should have been a pilot on board, what was he doing and the speed is something else.
Most cruise ships coming into dock do so, so slowly that you think there will never get there.
When coming into dock they are controlled by the wheelmen on the thrusters which are independent of the main prop.
But I thought 'that' skipper was still in prison, maybe not LOL.

Please note that I said engine failure has nothing to do with testing the gear. At no point did I state that testing etc., should not or was not done. We all or should have learned the value of that as young seafarers. A phone call to ECR would undoubtedly have been made, the problem was quite clearly that nothing obviously could be done about it, over ride or not. What you say makes perfect sense but clearly there was a total black out. In such an situation, the only thing working is the Master's backside making shirt buttons!!

Yes here in Oz, that island to the north of Tassie, down by Port Melbourne in the season there are hundreds of vans waiting to load.
Become a bit of a problem as they clog the local roads and make life difficult for many locals.

Yes they clog the roads here too, but we learn to live with it, our economy in Torquay depends upon tourism, after all we are the English Riviera, only had serious snow twice in 50 years, we have our palm trees and vineyards winning many world wide medals, so grockles welcome here, well most of them and we can plan our journeys in the November - March period

Much the same here Ivan, except they keep talking about a bridge !!!, then we would really get clogged up, at least the price of IOW ferries keeps the numbers of vehicles down, kt

The dreaded word "computer". Test the gear yes, but how do you test if the computer is going to do as asked when asked. As some aircraft pilots have found recently the computer over-rides what the human wants to do, with disastrous results.
