Default I'm Going to Jump Ship,!!

What do you make of this ???although he hasn't been away to sea he would've heard the saying "I think I'l Jump ship"not meaning he's going to jump over the wall.A bit OTT I reckon.
    Regards.

    Thanks for that Jim
I don't think the modern day foreign flag Seafarer has ever heard those words, `Jump Ship`. and so would not understand it.
It is very rare anyone jumps over the wall. I only ever saw it once and that was on the Empress of France in 1956. when an old man,[ probably a lot younger than I am now], took a running jump and vaulted over the wall, we went out in the life boat , all we found was his cap.
So in 45 years not a lot do jump. I saw many men `Jump Ship`. usually in Australia and New Zealand.
    So definitely OTT.
Should have sailed with a better cruise ship company.
    Cheers

It is one of those big ones that look like shopping trollies. I would never sail on one of those.

I don't think I replaced anyone that went 'over the wall' but I'm ever so grateful to the three that 'jumped ship' in Australia in the late 1940s before I got my discharge book at KGV Pool in 1950.

The Queen Mary 2, sailed from Liverpool bound for New York,
On July 14 you can fly to New York and join QM2 and sail to Halifax Nova Scotia and Transat to Southampton, 8 nights
    all for £699.
    Well worth it.

    Cheaper than Benidorm

    Similar in Cape Town Charlie
Recall the New Years Eve at the old Docks, used to always have Fireworks going off ,and there always seemed to be quite a few Ships in Port!
They would as said Blow their Horns for Minutes on end,it was really something!
And yes everybody was Happy and joined in together!
    Oh the Memories!

    Hi Jim.
Last year off Newcastle {Aus}a girl and her partner had an argument, she climbed over the rail to show him, but slipped and fell 16 meters, he a paramedic jumped after her to save her, the only thing is he told no one, so the ship got to Sydney before they searched. camcorders showed something but they never showed it on TV, they now want to award him with a medal for gallantry.
    Cheers Des
