I will be there Sunday Monday and Tuesday. I have sailed on QM2 and Queen Elizabeth so it will be good to see them here,
    Thanks for that Jim

Hi Jim, my sister and her husband are coming from Oz, joining Queen Elizabeth in Southampton for a Medi cruise then the meet up to sail into Liverpool.
We haven't met for many years so there will be lots to talk over also additions to the family they have not met.

Ships that still look a bit like ships as we knew them.

Had that been 3 queens in Southampton it may have had another meaning back I the 60's.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

That is a beautiful presentation Jim. And on board what sheer opulence.
When I was at sea the story going around was that when the Queen Mary was in Southampton con men went aboard and collected the entrance carpet and some Hobart galley equipment on a ruse and were even helped to get it to the wharf.

Richard, that is all it was, a story. There was no way anybody was going to remove furnishings from the Queen Mary or any other Cunard ship for that matter. As for removing Hobart equipment from the kitchens is just sheer fantasy. The gear was welded to the deck and impossible to move. Also all Cunard ships had MA's at the gangways.

A story when I was at sea a number of guys came aboard one of the Empress boats and took the grand piano ashore for repair and never came back.I believe this tobe a true story as I heard it from a couple of lads that I sailed with.A small company out of Liverpool a few guys came aboard and took all the cabin carpets for cleaning and that was the last that was seen of them.So from then on each time the ship docked in Liverpool the chf/eng. would take it upon himself to go around and collect all the carpets and have them locked in a secure place until sailing day.

Nicking a grand piano would require a small army.
I know as 5 of us tried to nick the one in the Piano Lounge of the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec. We only managed to get it out into the hall way before realising that there was no way 5 drunken seamen were capable of getting it out of the Chateau, across the Heights of Abraham and down the 101 steps to the road below and thence on board, even if we had tried to get it into a taxi, so we had to leave it there and move onto the Nunnery for refreshments.
