Norwegian Breakaway

I spent a night onboard the brand new 4,000+ passenger Norwegian Breakaway in Southampton earlier this week. She is very big and certainly aimed at families, as well as couples, with a large aqua park and climbing area on deck. Follow the link if you would like to read my review of her. She is certainly different to the Pendennis Castle, which I spent the whole of 1972 working on!

Next week it is the other end of the scale, when I am on a 1 night taster cruise aboard Hapag-Lloyd's new 500 passenger MS Europa 2.

Have never done a cruise, and would not entertain one with kids on board, the reason was a good example last night here, my son took us out for a meal for our birthday. Sitting at the next table was two couples with 6-7 kids (not exactly sure how many, they didnt sit still long enough to count), the kids were running around the table yelling and shouting, no parental control at all, the two couples too busy talking in their own loud voices to notice the kids. Spoilt the meal for everyone else. Selfish. When they left there was clapping in the place by other tables. Grumpy KT

I know what you are saying Keith, but would say that there is so much for the kids to do on the ships in their own supervised areas, many clients tell me that they hardly ever see any. They can even eat at separate times as well.

The good thing is that there are adult only ships such as Arcadia, Oriana, Adonia, Marco Polo etc

My old lady and I just got back of our 4 th cruise and you hardly see any kids ,as they have a lot of stuff just for them ,I managed too convince the wife to go back on cruises ,as they are cheaper than a hotel room at the beach ,great food and entertainment included ,as many lobster tails as you want . mmmm , we are planing our 3rd just this year and will do as many as the $$$ allow in the future

Glad you enjoyed your cruise Neville, they certainly take a lot of beating. Also pleased to hear you agree about the kids having plenty to do in their own space, without annoying everyone.

You lucky so and so living so close to where all the liners sail from. We have fancied a cruise on Holland America ships which have some good offers on at the moment, and don't really cater for kids, but the £1000 to get to Florida puts them out of reach.

Have never done a cruise........

Keith, I have done numerous cruises and can assure you that nothing such as that is tolerated in the dinning saloons. Even in the self service restaurants such behaviour is not tolerated. I have seen crew members tell parenst to keep the kids under control. But on all ships there is a kids centre normally open from 0800 hours till very late. Parents often leave the kids there all day where they are very well catered for.
