Hi all. My wife and I have just finished a cruise in the Med. We were berthed in a port in Cyprus, opposite was a couple of other cruise ships berthed, one was called VENUS, it looked like a ship that we sailed on a few years ago, then called the SEAWING, does anyone know if it is the same ship???? was an ex Norwegian ro-ro/pax ferry built 1971 in Italy - (16,607 grt) -2sc.mv named SOUTHWARD.


1977 was converted to pax. cruise ship,still named SOUTHWARD.
1995 Renamed SEAWING
2005 Renamed PERLA.Tonnage now stated as 16,710.
2008 Renamed THE AEGEAN PEARL
2010 Renamed RIO Owner Eagles Shipholding SA.Managed by Core Marine,Athens.Flag -Malta
N o recent info,so possibility she has been renamed VENUS ?

Thanks Terry, I an eternally grateful: where and exactly when were you in Cyprus last year; the last news I could glean on the Seawing was grim, She had a terrible history after being 'plundered' from MYT (My Travel) in 2004. Were you on her last voyage under Old Rock-Dodger Capt. Phil Rintell in October 2004, when we alll sadly disembarked for the last time in Valetta? Your Favorite Cruise - Airtours - Seawing She sailed thereafter as Pearle, Perla and MV Rio - which we last saw in 2010 in Ashdod whist in port on the Thomson Celebration with Rob Riddell, former ACD of the Seawing. The Israelli owners turned Her into a Casino, and allegedly went bust? Therefter all the 'news' was grim and suggested She was set for the breakers. Any news or pictures you can forward me on the 'Venus' will be much appreciated; as Capt. Rintell said when tied up along-side an American super-cruiser - we got twicwe the value, at a half the price! She was old and rickety, BUT What A Crew and Ship!!
