There were 5 of this class of first-generation containerships,owned by the Johnson Line,Stockhom,Sweden. Built in Turku,Finland,between 1969 and 1971.
I certainly remember one or two of them hurrying past in the Channel...
Even the 3 unconverted vessels had remarkably long lives for container ships
ANNIE JOHNSON 1969 .Conv.to Passenger Ship 1992( eventually became COSTA ALLEGRA.
AXEL JOHNSON 1969 . Conv.. to Passenger Ship 1990(eventually became COSTA MARINA.
ANTONIA JOHNSON 1971, had a succession of later owners,and only broken up in 1999(28 years old)
MARGARET JOHNSON 1970 had a succession of later owners,and was the first to be broken up after 18 years,in 1987.
SAN FRANCISCO 1970, had a succession of later owners and lasted till 2007(37 years old!)

when you see her from astern, its quite plain she has the same shape stern as a boxboat, originally had 2 wartsila-pielstick diesels 19,139 KW, re engined with 4 wartsila diesels 19,123 KW, 4 Knots slower than originally built, now 19 Knots. was 23 years old when converted to a cruise liner so the hull is 43 years old, i wonder if they will repair her, in view of her age, ?
