Re: Cruise Liners
Holland America have that rule in the booking forms,
Safety is paramount, if a passenger is missing, people have to search,
It is also posted on the safety notice in their cabins, everyone should know about it,
This years World cruise from Fort Lauderdale two couples were put ashore for not attending before we sailed. It was their choice, for being stupid.

Re: Cruise Liners
Having just looked at a couple of videos of the Scarlet Lady on you tube I think that is the first ship I have ever seen that the front end is even uglier than the a**e end and the top deck on her in a virtual reality video appears to show what can only be described as 'Beach huts' The ship might be at the cutting edge of design but I agree she is ugly.

Re: Cruise Liners
We are all well aware that over time there will be changes to not just ships but cars, buildings etc.
We have come along way from the days of sails.
But why do some architects like to portray what they saw in their nightmare?
Cutting edge maybe, but a bit on the blunt side I fear.

Re: Cruise Liners
Noro Virus is prevalent on many cruise ships.
Brought about by two things mainly, persons who do not wash their hands after the toilet and those who go ashore eating and drinking in less than good quality bars and restaurants.
Have been on a few where we have had the self serve educe to being served as a result of this.
Just back from a quick five day one to celebrate the birthday of SWMBO.
Speaking with many crew members as I do I learned a it more about them.
With Princess, not sure about the others, they have an on board account.
This stays with them for all their time with the company, on board or on leave.
Into this each week their pay is placed, they can then do what they wish with.
Use it on board, end some home on the internet banking service provided by the company.
A lot of members have shown concern regarding safety on board, particularly if evacuation of the ship took place.
I observed a crew emergency drill in port and saw them act in a very professional manner.
Then the following night at dinner, about half way through, it came over the PA.
'Emergency crew starboard D go immediately to H position'
Six wingers dropped all they were doing and took off like the wind.
About ten minutes later the call came across the PA, emergency over stand down.
Never did find out what it was but the speed with which the crew reacted shows they are well trained despite what many may think.

Re: Cruise Liners
News today regarding the 'Gentin Dream' cruise ship.
A ten year old boy drown in one of the pools and the row is on, who should be looking out for those in the pool?
Over the past six years there have been a dozen or so drownings or near ones.
Only a couple of companies have life guards on board which is surprising considering the number of water features on some ships now.
But the companies are not liable, covered as they are by a 1920 act, "Death on high seas'.
So is it the responsibility of the parents or the ship?

Re: Cruise Liners
On Holland America there is a large notice at the pool saying there is No Lifeguard, so passengers have to take care of your children. and No diving, No Bombing.
never seen more than 4 of 5 people in at one time
. I never go in swimming pools Too many people use them as lavatories.
If you have kids look after them, it is your responsibility.

Re: Cruise Liners
Some bad news this morning.
The cruise ship, 'Vasco de Gama' which left Melbourne Wednesday evening is drifting off the coast of South Australia with no power.
No toilets, lights, elevators, cooking or much else.
There are about 900 passengers and the crew aboard and as one passenger told on a phone call to local radio station,
'We boarded this ship In London for the trip of a life time'.
She has since been able to get into Adelaide where she is now berthed waiting for repairs.
