When cappy visited his beloved shields, he would have a pint or two in the old ship pub, I used to meet with my pals there regularly but unfortunately never got to meet cappy.
Condolences to his wife and family, he always gave a good account of his years at sea and afterwards in industry.

What a sad return to the site, my wife and I have been laid up with a flue like illness.
Thank you Marion for letting us know about th passing of a very good mate, Cappy was funny serious and knowledgable, I liked his posts and missed them when he left. My deepest respects go to his wife and family.
Rest in Peace Mate and may fair winds and calm seas meet you on you way.

I never knew Cappy personally, but it's always sad to hear this kind of news. Condolences to his family, and of course Marian.

Today have received a private email signed by Cappys grandson and his wife Pat. Thought at first when I saw it, it was Cappy keeping in contact from higher places. However you should know that the family appreciate the remarks passed about his life. Charles your Grandfathers death was passed on to the site from one of the ex members who kept a record of what one could say births deaths and marriages and even after leaving the site kept in contact with some of our now departed members. Your Grandfather was as big as life itself and your statements about his personal thoughts and actions were mutual. We all come to the end of the road sometime and suspect Cappy went out with all due respect kicking like an old war horse.I am sure he leaves behind good stock to at least follow morally in his footsteps. Best of luck to you and all of your grandfathers family. Hope you make a habit of looking into the site from time to time. All the best John Sabourn.

    Hi John.
Cappy and I crossed swords once or twice but never in anger, I always looked forward to his posts. I will miss his repartee on site.
