    Default Mike Chopin R.I.P.

    Hello All,

I'm the sister of Michael Anthony Chopin, and it's with great sadness to notify you that Michael died on 6 May 2021, in Worthing Hospital after suffering illness.

Michael worked for Furness Withey and then Houlder Brothers, he also sailed on the Black Prince (amongst others the name escapes me). His best friend Paul Hambly sailed on the ill-fated "MV Royston Grange", the loss of his best friend devastated him.

I remember me and my family coming up to London to collect him one evening. My brother Francis saw a little dinghy covered with a tarpaulin and spotted the name "Black Prince" - he said, "That cannot be Mikes ship" :-) it wasn't of course, my brother's sense of humour.

Michaels burial service took place on 6 June at St Catherine's Church in Littlehampton and donations have been made to the Merchant Navy Fund via The Seafarers' Charity.

I would be grateful if you could pass on this sad news to any friends and colleagues that Michael was in contact with.

    Kind regards
    Therese (sister to Michael Chopin)
