For those who may have trained or sailed with my father David (Bob) Christmas, he sadly 'Crossed the bar' on 15th February 2025 at the age of 91.
He often spoke with great fondness of his days at sea, and trained on the T.S. Vindicatrix from 31st July to 6th October 1950.
He subsequently joined the Reardon Smith line and sailed on the Dallas City and King City

Thank you for the Notice. So sad to loose anyone , but on here more so any ex Seaman.
I hope that there may be a few who possibly may recall, or even sailed with him, who knows but as its a long time back, i guess most of the Lads that were with him are also passed on by now!
Belated Condolences to you and the Family, i know it must have been hard. Time heals as they say!

Hoping now too that his sails were filled with calm winds to take him back to so many places he once so loved and enjoyed.

Hello Deborah , don’t believe the same person , but may be of the same family. ? I sailed and knew a Joe Christmas from Southern Ireland but in 1964/65 was 3rd Engineer. If alive today he would be probably in his early 90s. However believe Christmas is a well known name in Southern Ireland. Sorry for your loss. J. Sabourn.
Your picture shows him in an apprentices uniform. Don’t think the one I knew was such as would have served his time probably in a shipyard. However with a few age lines in his face could pass for the one I knew. JS
PS was a joke among ourselves when in a crowd usually in a pub , someone would start singing “ I’m walking backwards to Christmas across the Irish Sea” was always taken in all due solemnly . JS
Have just looked up , if of the same family last time saw Joe was during the seaman’s strike in 1966. We were held up in Port Talbot for quite some time.on a ship called the Ravensworth. JS
