Default Captain James Forrest, Shell tankers

Captain Forrest passed away recently at the age of 94. He was master in shell tankers on their vlcc,'s and lived opposite me and wife when we moved into our first house in East Boldon in 1978, smashing fellow to chat with. Any ex shell guys recall sailing with him?

The name rings a bell, but I don't recall sailing with him, I knew a Les Bradford (c/e) who lived in E. Boldon tho.
Avery good friend of mine was deck apprentice around your time, Terry Wright, with Mobil I think, poor soul died of cancer about 20 years ago. He blamed it on inhaling too much gas when taking ullages.

John, slightly off thread but your mention of East Bolden.

I spent much of my younger days on holidays there in 52 Langham Road.
Wonder if it is still there?
    Happy daze John in Oz.

John, did you mean Langholm Rd. if so it is still there, about 11 miles (15 - 20 mins) from me.

Yes Tony, that is it, got the spelling wrong but a long time since I was last there.
There was a family there by the name of Charlton, one of the sons worked on the North Sea oil rigs in the 60's.

ha ha John, we might end up related, one branch of my family is Charlton (originally one of the border reiver families in Northumberland - reivers = cross border thieves, vagabonds, cattle rustlers etc.)
