Default Bob Cobb, R/O "South America".

Yesterday - 19th September, my very dear friend, Bob Cobb, died aged 93 years. A good long life and a long good life.

He was rescued on 6th April 1944 from the burning Norwegian Tanker,"South America". He was the 3rd R/O and had just turned 18 a few weeks before. My Dad (Capt. W. J. Hartley) in the Rescue Ship "Goodwin" rescued the entire crew. In 2004 Bob contacted me to say that he owed his life to my father. How wonderful to hear that !

We have been in constant and regular touch ever since. Always on 6th April he would call to say,"This is my Day of Life". .Just a few weeks ago I was able to send him a copy of your posting, Billy, about the new panels on Tower Hill and the Norwegian Merchant Navy. So, thank you for that; he was really pleased to know about it.

Dear Bob; a safe harbour after your long life's voyage. Rest in peace. I shall miss you.

    Hello,
Went to Bob Cobb's funeral yesterday - my lovely husband drove the 82 miles.....and back.
I was asked to do the Eulogy which was really special. I had made a recording years ago of Bob's rescue, so it was wonderful to be able to use his words.
His friendship was a great blessing to me. I met him via Billy's MN website many years ago. So, thank you Billy.
    Regards
    Brenda
