Default Meiwyn - known as Robbie- Roberts. Radio Officer

Robbie Roberts crossed the bar last week after a long illness. He was Radio Officer with the Rescue Ships and served with my father, Captain Bill Hartley, on RS Goodwin. He was involved in the rescue of the entire crew of the tanker, South America in April 1944 on Convoy SC156. Through Robbie and the Merchant Navy site, I met a rescued Radio Officer, Bob Cobb, from the South America. In 2005 we all 3 met and have remained good friends. I shall miss Robbie and his great sense of fun. A safe harbour and a peaceful rest after your long voyage, Robbie. God Bless.

    Hello Brenda,

I am also sorry to hear of your recent loss, but I felt compelled to contact you as I have recently lost my father and was searching for information on his war service, when I stumbled upon your post.

My late father, Dennis William Ray, served on rescue ships between 1943-45 and specifically on
the Goodwin... He attained the rank of petty officer and was a 'greaser' working in the engine room.

I will leave a private message for you with details of my e mail address, in the hope that you will contact me.

    Best regards,

    Jeff Ray.
