Welcome aboard Jeffrey. The many times whilst on Port Line, Shaw Savill and Western Australia State shipping I have seen your ships, particularly in Fremantle between 1947 and 1953. Also, was a passenger on the Orcades from San Francisco to Suva in 1955. In the nine years after the MN 1959 to 1968 from my office in Burns Philp Building, Suva I could see the wharf and those beautiful ships tied up alongside. Did the return trip Suva to Sydney in 1967 on the Oriana.

Here is the Orcades at Suva when my sister came to collect me.
Enjoy the camaraderie of this excellent site.

Going down to the Royal group of docks in London the P&O ships were always a great sight to see as there always seemed to be
one or more at Tilbury, The picture Richard posted reminds me of seeing Orcades at sea in the mid fifties when we were homeward
bound and she was outward bound we passed quite closely, both ships sounded their horns and the passengers were on deck waving
to us, it was always a welcome sight to meet another ship at sea, cheers.

Here is another P and O ship alongside the Suva Wharf. Not sure which one - perhaps a 'Strath'?
Off her stern is one of the Cable Ships that were based in Suva at that time.

Hi John Thank you for your post many great memories of P&0 orient ships in pla Tilbury On my first trip to sea the Strathmore Arcadia & Iberia all tied up one behind the other , I was on the Orontes tied up in the Orient line birth opposite what a great sight later sailed Strathmore Arcadia Orcades & Canberra . Orient line ships quite often rendeouved & passed each other on there line runs , two that stand out was Orontes outward bound to Aus & Oriana home ward on her maiden voyage the ships greeted each other with horns blasting long into the distance the ships passed very close. Homeward bound same trip on Orontes we passed Orcades out ward bound in bay biscay same routine great times regards Jeff happy sailing
