I have emailed, may aswell ask. Yeah I know he was in the water for several hours afterwards. Didnt doris health any good he wasnt well after that and died before his time in 1952 from respiratory issues and pneumonia. Feel sad for all the lives lost though in a needless attack.

    Hi Lauren.
It wasn't needless it was a war crime to attack a hospital ship, the Japs sank one in the pacific knowing it was one.

Des, it was the Japanese that marched nurses to the beach in Singapore and shot them.

But after the war no war crime trials as for the Germans, and if history is correct they committed just as many atrocities as the Germans.
Take a look at Hell Fire pass in Thailand to see just how barbaric they were.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

many atrocoties occur in war ....our own folk are capable of such .....it is war ...but at least our nation has not turned a blind eye.....i have heard of a italian woman who threw her rubbiish plus into a well very deep as some soldiers desperate for water were pulling the bucket up ...she was thrown down the well afterwards

Will do, on a separate note does anyone know whether I am able to locate records about the reformatory ship hms Cornwall based at purfleet and then later tilbury? This is where he started you see, he had a very difficult early life and so became a bit of a teenage tearaway. He ended up in court several times and was eventually sent to Serve there as a punishment. I know many boys who served on it ended up in the merchant or royal navy.
