Hello Doc, I'm attaching the record of service I have been given. Perhaps you could confirm some of the details with what you are seeing. It looks as if he has spent a fair bit of time on land duties with engineers as well as at sea.Victor Watts 1 001.jpg

Makes some interesting reading that Linda , we ex Seaman got up to some wierd things in our times!
I am gald that you put the Document on here as it will help some others that seek info, which cannot be obtained from Kew. As i have said many times Southampton does hold many Original Records but only certain Years!

What is at Southampton and Kew? I'm in Australia. Are these the locations of the records for the Merchant Navy?

    Yes Linda
Southampton is the so to say original , and hold many Records but not all.
Kew is the Large of the two that holds most all Records, excepting for those at Southampton.

At the moment one cannot access any Records online ,except those that are already Digitised. This owing to the Covid issue.
Those who can get to Kew in person (Southampton as well) after making an appointment will be able to access Records in Person.
All others will now have to wait until al is back to normal, when that will be is any ones guess.
    Cheers

    Central index of Merchant Seamen

Reading the last Section on the Southampton Archive page that opens, looks like one may be able to make application online for that Fee shown. So would send them an initial Email and ask!

The service will cost £15 per surname for up to 3 individuals of the same surname
