    HI George.
Welcome to the site, plenty of stories to bring back old memories on site. Did you do your training at the Vindi sea school, what ships did you do your Deck boy and OS on?
    Cheers Des

G'day Des I attended The South Shields Marine and Tech College for 12 months training to be an apprentice deck officer.
I had past the colour eye sight before I entered but when I had completed the course I was re-tested in Hull and they failed me.
The test was preformed using the old oil lamp type making the colours very washed out and were conducted at a ridiculous speed.
Years later I found out that you are either born colour blind or not, you cannot lose your colour sight.
So I ended up going to Graves End Sea School for catering so I could get to sea.
I did a couple of trips as cabin boy and then transferred to deck after passing a different type of colour test.
    This was in 1952/53.
I served in The Wilson Line, Prince Line, Elderdemster's Union Castle, Bank Line, British Tankers,Pacific Steam, Orient Line.
    Plus a few more as.
I was deck boy on the Cavallo, JOS on the Cavallo and Memphis, Tudor Prince Henzee. Cicero, then SOS on the Bassano, and Cicero.
EDH on another 22, I didn't bother about AB I was classed that ranking anyway.

Sorry I have not been on lately just been too busy over the Christmas period.
Thank you for contacting me Kind regards George

I found out years later that you can't lose your colored eye sight.

Thanks George, welcome to the site. As you say EDH was in our time much of a muchness, but was sorry to hear that you missed out on being a mate owing to bum technology.
    Cheers Des

Thanks Des being young and naive at the time I just accepted it, if I had known what I found out later I could have sued them.
