    Hi Vince welcome to the site couldn’t help noticing we have similar discharge book numbers mine is UK031339 so you went to sea shortly before me I also sailed as senior mechanic with P&O European ferries sailing from PortsmouthI never sailed on any of your ships but I did have an enjoyable trip on the King James back in 1978.Jack Tilling.Bridgend.

    Whats all this Senior Mechanic stuff? as once upon a time I remember mechanics were not accepted for employment as Engineers at sea.

    In ESSO we had Mechanics who eventually became Engineers.

    Was not mechanic as in engine mechanic a better discribtion was maintenance

    I was on the Winchester Castle as well but a lot earlier than you.
    1959 Catering.
    She was a good Ship many happy times aboard ,however lots of hard graft too,with two sitting of Fourteen Passengers at each meal,it was hectic not forgetting all the other duties we had to do,Linen Carries,Beer Carries,Cleaning etc etc
    But loved every minute of it

    The Winchester Castle I was on was a 8000ton fruit ship, just going to and from sth Africa
