Yes I sailed with Brian he was bosun on my first trip as Deck Boy on the IXIA, I joined in Lisbon in June I think of 1980 may have been sooner but we had a great trip up the lakes, I learned a lot from Brian and the EDHs and ABs, from the Lakes we headed down to Rio De Jenero, San-Francisco de-sol, Paranagua, and back up the lakes before heading back to I think it was Brest and pay off

David don't think you saw the subtle joke of Ivan when he mentions your mind wandering to particular parts of the feminine figure. Brest is Brest and Breast to put it more crudely is you know what. Cheers and welcome to the site. We all make gaffes at some time or other and is quite acceptable among us. Stag line was at 1 Howard Street North Shields and at one time stayed at the top end of the same street, was offered a job once with them but declined, shortly after this they ceased to exist. Regards John S

OOps yer right John , sorry Ivan missed the pun
I remember visiting the Office in Howard Street once or twice, i also remember Huntings old office in Dean Street in the TOON.
First trip on the IXIA i ended up owing the company £60
But it was a hell of a trip

hi david brian was one of the nicest guys you could come across ......much respected in shields a proper old time bosun .....but stood no cowboys and those in shields of that ilk wouldnt sail with him......one family of so called hard cases were told to go away from any ship he was on ...and took the tip .......he worked in security after leaving the sea and was not in the best of health ...he asked me how to do a will and igot theform for him to fill in .......sadly he passed 3 years ago ......and the will was not completed or found ......i had conversations with his sister she was a headmistress in a school a proper lady......one of the last of a long gone breed ofseamen......never to be seen again RIP brian......cappy from shields

Cappy sadly the only thing we can be sure of in this life but people come and go in our lives and some leave their mark on ours, I was a deck Boy and Brian was the Bosun, he looked after me and steered me or tried to steer me right haha he was a great teacher and one of the reasons im still at sea 36 yrs later, Brian, Little Willy (Whos last name evades me (Another shields Bosun) and Jimmy Stewart (Handy Man with Huntings) always planning on moving to Vancouver but not sure if he ever did.
Funny i remember those days like yesterday but cant remember what i had for breakfast hahahaha
