Rates of Exchange... Rubles to pounds. If remember correctly the official exchange rate in the 60"s was about 2.5 to the pound. For an actual pound note in Murmansk could get at least 5 on the black market. The only place to spend though was at the International Club only open to Foreigners. The best buys were Shotguns, Russian Champagne (Vodka) and tins of caviar. At the same period in B.A. the official rate was about 39.5 to the pound but a pound ashore was worth about a 100 pesos. Britain was still Great then. Was one of the few perks a seaman got. JS
