Re: David Kerr
#7... David was a common occurrence getting into debt. Most seamen were honest when it came to the push and was one way of getting people to come back next trip. I believe 56 Pilgrim street (Runcimans) finished up as a Night Club, don't know if still is. Cheers JS

Re: David Kerr
Im at Allseas now Cappy, on the Pioneering Spirit
Yes i treasure those days and eventually Brian will be in my Book, He was an honest man and what you seen was what you got.
I remember once getting a bollucking from the Captain Ozzy Colins, and afterwards he slapped me lightly across the back of the head and said Chalk it up son , and move on , good advise then and now...
Brian was a big bloke I can imagine him causing hell in hospital haha RIP Brian.

Re: David Kerr
Hi Cappy and David, WOW, that's some vessel, just googled the same, just a monster. We are just from another era, at least most on this site. Mind you would not have missed the old days for anything, the sheer joy of humping all those hatch boards, and three sheet tarpaulin covers, hatch bars, wedges etc, (only joking there). But the old days of tramping were great, but long gone kt

Re: David Kerr
She certainly is some vessel, but alas her crew will never know the joy of going where we tramping men went, on the plus side they will never be away from home so long, I was two years older when I came back from one of my trips and still paid off with the same balance as I would have done from a three month trip, as then, as now life was/is for living!

Re: David Kerr
David
How did you feel about the Pioneering Spirits former name Peter Schelte, who was apparently a bit of a nasty piece of work in WW2??
Have Allseas been awarded any rig removal contracts yet that she was built for.
My ex. next door neighbour works for Allseas up in Aberdeen in the H.S.E. dept., moved up there about 5 years ago from Shields.

Re: David Kerr
Cappy
I have been in the offshore game since quiting deep sea when i got married mid 80s, there wasnt much left of a merchant navy then anyway, i have worked on just about every type of vessel in that time, but this is a new concept, if it works it will be a true PIONEER, my days are now as Safety Officer which along with 4 other safety officers is a 24/7 task. but very good for the exercise and mind hahaha there is a LOT of her.....regards Dave

Re: David Kerr
Ivan
I loved Tramping, loading a cargo and punting it while you sailed down the locks from the great lakes hahahaha
we were heading for Rio once upon a time as far as we knew but when we got to the St Lawrence Seaway we found out we were heading for Leningrad as it was then and 3 month in the river awaiting to discharge, paying off in Keel, But got to see lots of Leningrad, the winter palace will live in my memory and the seamans mission was the oldest building i have ever been inside i reckon.
the black market was the only reason i left that ship in the black we were exchanging dollars for LOTS of Rubels as i remember.
