Hi John, I was on the Hornby Grange in 1959 for one trip, I worked in the catering dept and have some good memories of times ashore.
There was a cadet who was attacked by the Argie dockers while he was down a hold I thought his name was Perry (could this be yourself)
also the trip before I joined her a docker was killed by getting caught up in a winch hawser. Welcome to the site and a good bunch of blokes.
    cheers, JC

Ah, Port Talbot. To make Margam and the steel works more glam we called our home port, when asked, Santa Port Tablo. Capt. Pike, a lovely man. I was a 16 year old very seasick first tripper on the Oreosa, Chief Officer Stuart Goffey, second mate Edmonson. Third mate Ivan Allo from Jersey. Fellow cadet named Epps from Broadstairs. Captain Potts . We had Christmas 1958 at home as we hit the sea wall in Barrow and spent 6 weeks in Langton dry dock in Liverpool. Lost a man overboard my first trip. Left her late '58 for the Hornby Grange".

#3 She was still going strong in 1965. They reckoned she had more seatime in than a lot at the time. Got married about that era so suppose she settled down then. Even saw her ashore in Narvik one time.I was mate on the Ravensworth. Didn't check to see what ship she was off in case it was mine. Used to have an agreement with her that she would be off in the morning before the dockers came aboard in Port Talbot. Had the same agreement with the girls out of Bettys bar at General Terminus on the Clyde. Must of got out of hand one time as carried one as a stowaway down to Liverpool, had to hand her over to police on arrival and they shipped her back to Glasgow. That however was a later date and different company, the Beechwood. Cheers JS
