If there was an award or medal for dedication of duty in peace time it should have gone to you, Brian.

The mere mention of Shell would see me hiding under the tables of the nearest pub.
You must have been very brave or very crazy.

Hi, And welcome Brian. I think what Louis is saying as you well no tankers were not to everyone's taste. It wasn't the case that you were expecting a long voyage, I think most of the lads who were on deck which I can only speak for. Would rather sail and work a good old fashion 4 or 5 hatch cargo ship that usually reached the ports that lets say tankers never reached. I only sailed in one she wore a scallop SS Achatina the only thing I will say is it was the best feeder I sailed in Regards Bri, Terry.

Thanks to all. I know tankers are not to liked but, For me, i could not work on a ship with passengers. My experiences were second to none, working on a tramp ship, going from pillar to post. Included the Baltic, South America, Manaus, Longbeach, India,(a 45 day trip, Curacao to Bombay) Australasia, New Caledonia. This was on the MV Dorcasia. All told, I really enjoyed my sea time. No regrets.

Hi Brian, or should I say "Fred" I hope you are still around, if you are, drop me a line, either here or at dbarrott@dodo.com.au. As you said, we had some good times. Did you ever hear from Harry Arnold?
