I sailed with a Chief Officer, later Captain, Ernie Meetham from Hull who served his time in Wilsons. His dad was also a skipper in Wilsons and had some sort of medal for undertaking the longest tow by a merchant vessel when his ship towed another Wilson line ship for around 20 days {I believe} back to port after it suffered major engine failure? somewhere out in the Caribbean.
Great fellow he was, always good for a laugh and during the Falklands conflict his ship was the supply tanker for jet fuel in Stanley. Got visited one Sunday afternoon {this long after the fighting was over} by the military man in charge at that time who wanted to carry out an inspection but Ernie told him in no uncertain terms to get off his ship and not to come back without obtaining prior permission as he was on a Merchant Ship, not a Naval one.
Ernie was on the next flight home apparently and after that he seemed to go down hill rapidly as the drink got a hold of him.
At hat time during the conflict and for a number of years after we had two tankers down there, one supplying jet fuel for the fighter planes and one supplying fresh water for the troops. They were living under canvas with pretty primitive conditions so there was a regular movement of them out to those two ships where they could get a shower, decent meal and a few beers.

Anyone got any connect to the Malmo or Rollo around late 50's/early 60's?
