Hi All, I have just received an electronic copy of Donald’s death certificate from the BMD NSW Australian authorities. I can confirm 100% that it our Donald. Details of his death has raised further questions that need to be looked at.
With regards to the paid search at the National Archives at Kew as suggested by Doc Vernon, I expect to hear from them soon
and will update you all with the details.
Something I have learnt is, that deaths in Australia are not recorded in the U.K. unless the family request the British embassy or consulate to advise the BMD authorities. The reason is Australian death certificates are accepted for wills and probate in the U.K.
Yes Tim, Marian is always helpful and diligent in her research and has helped many members get a handle on their family research,as well as being a thoroughly 'good sort' with an interest in the Sea.
Regrettably,it seems something has happened and Marian appears to be no longer on this site-what on earth has gone on now?.......
I presume the N/A apellation in the Likes section referring to the reception of your post refers to Marian--how insultingly impersonal is that for a 'quality ' site like this to erase a person by the term N/A? .
I wish you continuing good progress in your future searches.
Kind Regards
Graham

Not wishing to make waves with you, i must ask that you refrain from attempting to downgrade this site!
Those Terms as you call them are the normal for someone who is taken off site! Not only for the Lady in question!
Thank You
Thank you Timothy
Hope that what you get back from them will at least have some good info for your benefit!
Please keep us informed!
Hi Doc & others, Doc, your link to the National Archives for Donald paid off. He left the Nautical college in January 1972 and according to his CRS was employed on the GraigAllan 300498. Engagement 1-5-72 place B-head discharge 11-7-72 M-bro.
GraigAllan 300498 engagement 11-7-72 place M-bro discharge 22-8-72.
AsiaFreighter 343235 engagement 13-10-72 place Clyde, discharge 11-11-72 Clyde.
One month after this he left for Australia! This is puzzling, I will search the Marconi records at the Bodleian Library in Oxford for his employment record which may have the reason why he left Marconi.
I have been away for a couple of weeks but picked up a telephone message from a very distant relative who has some information about Donald but has warned me it may be of a distressing nature, and to contact them tonight, I know he died 18 months later after arriving in Australia. Will comeback with any useful information.
Apologies, I have mis-spelt one of the ships, it should read Craigallian.
Well Timothy
Things looking a lot better now, at least you have a bit to go on now!
I am sure you will get all you need with time and patience!
So far so good!
Thanks for update!
Cheers

Latest information, having been in contact with a distant relative it was stated at the time, that Donald had Drowned at Sea, in fact this was incorrect. Donald had taken his own life in the North Ryde Psychiatric hospital in North Ryde Sydney NSW Australia. It is conjecture that he was being accused for something he didn’t do, This is very sad. If anyone has any information about Donald’s situation in Sydney from Dec 1972 to Oct 1974 please could you let us know.
